Pop singers with unconventional voices tend to get a lot of flack for being... well, unconventional. Amie is about as unconventional as most pop singers get. She's kind of blusey with a pinch of indie. I want to say her rough texture is kind of country, too. Amie's not the kind of thing you'd hear on a TV reality show too easily - she is getting lots of play in grocery stores though. Oh and I hear she's a badass opener for David Archuleta.
She plays her guitar like a banjo (which you can hear in 'Brand New') and it's a fantastically original and inspiring sound. More of the upbeat rural country sound comes out in 'I Came Around' and the uplifting feeling continues in the airy 'Who You Really Are.' A song that's almost pitch-perfect for a breakup scene in a movie.
She's not nearly as famous as she should be, according to a random YouTuber. Watch the video and if you don't like it, it's probably because of her voice. And even then, you still have to admit that despite her vocals, the actual song is wonderful and deserving of the title of breakthrough artist. Or maybe even best new artist.
