The singer, songwriter, bass player, gypsy jazz musician and Memphis resident - Amy LaVere - kicks more ass than a Tai Chi class. She's finally getting some of the recognition she deserves thanks to MTV and Craig Brewer's fantastically amazing $5 Cover - a Memphis music and film series. And I'm not being bias. It's a very interesting show.
Her track history is extensive. Amy's talent and lyrics are mature, brooding and beautiful - but there's this sexy, bluesy edge to it, too. Songs like "Washing Machine" are more blues than jazz and it sounds good - pardon the pun. Did I mention she's a lead singer who plays bass? And is armed with a glitter pistol on her second album cover - "Anchors and Anvils"? Her latest is titled, "Died of Love". Hear it at her MySpace page and in various episodes of $5 Cover. You can see her acting skills in $5 Cover as well.
